St Mary’s – Lunchtime Recitals Every Wednesday from 1:00pm – 2:00pm, we offer free lunchtime recitals delivered by professional musicians from across the region and beyond including students from the renowned Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Programmes are released monthly and we have a broad range of soloists and groups playing a variety of music to suit different pallets. From Georgian treats to Ethiopian coffee tickle your taste buds and learn Handsworth’s fascinating food history! Your tour will begin in Soho House to explore the Georgian obsession with eating and drinking. From elaborate breakfasts to ceremonial tea making, the Boulton family’s life revolved around dinning. The House also played host to the famous Lunar Society dinners with their extensive menus. We’ll taste several Georgian delicacies including Game Pie, Gingerbread and the fruit favoured by the rich, pineapple. The theme this year is Food, so there will be information on old farms in the area, like Hill Top and Manwoods, and also food for sale like samosas and other tasty morsels! Simmer Down is one of the largest and most diverse festivals in Birmingham.
